Obituary of Linda Diane Capitano

Linda Diane Capitano

After a courageous battle with ALS, it is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane Capitano.  With her loving partner, Ted Marshall, at her side, Diane passed away peacefully on Friday, May 30, 2025, at LHSC Victoria Hospital.

Born in London, Diane was the daughter of (predeceased) Jose and Verna Capitano (née Billson).

In her teen years, she attended and graduated from Catholic Central High School (CCH), and also a year of supplemental studies at H. B. Beal Secondary School.

While at CCH, Diane particularly enjoyed the music program.  Here, she learned to play the oboe while in the band and also made many lifelong friends.  With the band, she also had the honour and privilege to perform at the Vatican and meet the Pope.

Diane was a valued and lifelong employee of the London Public Library.  She was a world traveller, a lover of animals, and was always up for an adventure.  She had a kind heart and a sunny disposition that motivated her to devote much of her time volunteering at the food bank and Meals on Wheels.

In 2020, Diane had the misfortune of a housefire that destroyed her home.  Within a few months, she also received devastating news that she was terminally ill with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

During her illness, Diane displayed an amazing amount of courage in the face of adversity.  On the worst of days, Diane always managed to find some happiness and enjoyed life to the fullest.  She was always smiling and grateful to have a visitor.

Diane will be missed by her loving partner, Ted Marshall; many cousins, including Trudy Lorre and other members of her extended family; special friends, Joan Burdon, Bob Schlueter, Mary Taylor, Joan Turner, Bev Olivastri, John Cooper, Claudette,(predeceased), Irene Marshall and caring neighbours and friends

“So, when I count my blessings, I count Diane twice” – Ted.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at St. Michael’s Parish, 511 Cheapside Street, at 11:00 am, to be followed by interment in St. Peter’s Cemetery, 806 Victoria Street.
