Peacefully, and surrounded by family, Maria Ramona Villamater passed into eternal rest on May 22, 2025, at the age of 81.

She was the devoted daughter of the late Fe Esperanza Montero Villamater, a Social Worker and Captain Domingo Utzurrum Villamater of the Philippine Navy and Department of National Defense, and cherished sister of Maria Concessa, Maria Carla, Maria Michaela, and brothers Roberto Benedicto, Carlos Arturo, and Oscar Bernardino.

Ramona will be deeply missed by her many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, relatives across the Philippines, the United States, Australia, and her friends in Canada.

Ramona's early education at St. Domitilla School and her formative few years at the boarding home of The Good Shepherd Convent located then in Marikina, Rizal, shaped a life of purpose and compassion. Under the mentorship of Sister Benedict, Mother Superior of the Congregation of Our Lady of Charity of the Good Shepherd, Ramona thrived both spiritually and academically. The school is now home to St. Bridget School in Quezon City.

A summa cum laude graduate in Chemistry, Ramona earned her Bachelor of Science degree and achieved board certification as a licensed chemist in the Philippines. She shared her love of science and mentorship with her students at Maryridge School in Tagaytay, Cavite, a private school for girls, where she also resided alongside the Good Shepherd Sisters. That school’s grounds are now the Maryridge Good Shepherd Retreat Center.

Later in life, Ramona moved to Canada after being sponsored as a Chemistry professor by Brock University, St. Catharines, Ontario. She became a Canadian citizen and continued to lead a life guided by care, love of her surroundings and faith. In her final years, she lived at Dearness Home where she called home, was lovingly cared for until her passing.

Though Ramona never took religious vows, she lived her life with the grace, compassion, and quiet leadership of a true shepherd.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff, caregivers, and dear friends at Dearness Home for their devoted support.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Justin’s Church, 855 Jalna Blvd, on Monday, May 26th, at 10 am.
