Obituary of John Wayne Husband

The Funeral Mass is FULL.   Please join the family via livestream at https://springbankcatholic.ca/

John was born in London Ontario on September 15th 1947.  He passed away peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospice on Monday February 7th 2022.  Beloved husband and best friend of Linda for 51 years. Proud father of Brad and James (Emma) and special grandpa to Leila, Leif, Hal, Arlo and Enzo.  Loving brother of Dan.  Predeceased by his parents Jack and Mary Husband.  John will be missed by extended family in Thunder Bay and Nova Scotia.

John was larger than life both in personality and stature. He was positive, optimistic and full of fun.  Nobody could tell a story like John and he always had one to share.  He greeted everyone with his infectious smile and was always willing to help a friend.

The cornerstones of John's life were faith, family and friends.  He was an active member of St. George’s parish for 45 years where he was a Lector, a Greeter and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. John was Past Grand Knight of the St George Council as well as Past Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree Jerome P. McNamara Assembly.

John loved his family and we all knew it. He was always a good example for his sons and was so proud of the men they have become. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and one of their favorite memories is making pancakes with grandpa.  He also enjoyed spending holidays and special occasions with extended family where he could show off his cooking skills.

John had so many friends and he enjoyed keeping in touch with all of them. Even though he was bedridden for the last seven months of his life he kept in touch through phone calls, emails and video calls.

John was a born salesman and he had a diverse career. He spent many years in the car business where he enjoyed being a mentor. He always treated his customers with respect and many became friends. He also enjoyed writing and recording radio commercials for several dealerships.

John was always involved in volunteer work. He was a member of the Byron Optimist Club and the Byron Sports Complex Committee. He also ran the Learn to Skate Program and coached baseball and hockey for many years.

John was passionate about sports and always enjoyed cheering on his favorite teams. He and Linda loved theatre and enjoyed many productions over the years. They also loved to travel and made many good friends from around the world that they are still in touch with today.

John was involved in the Society for Learning in Retirement where he developed an interest in drama and wrote, directed and acted in several productions and enjoyed singing in the choir.
