Giancola, Ida (nee D’Uva)
In her 102nd year, Ida Giancola (nee D’Uva), passed away peacefully on February 4, 2022 with her loving family by her side. Ida is now reunited with her husband, the late Pietro Giancola (1961). Survived by her children Nicolina (Antonio) and Giovanni Giancola. Ida is also reunited with her sweet infant daughter Giuseppina (1961). Ida was greatly admired and will be deeply missed by her grandchildren Sergio Giancola (Gilda), Antonella Giancola-Thompson (Chris) and the late Lorenzo Giancola (2008). Dear Bisnonna or “Bizzy” to Andrew, Christian, Matthew, Adam, Sofia and Vanessa. She will be warmly remembered as Zia Ida to several loving nieces and nephews.
Ida came to Canada in 1972 from Italy and devoted herself to her family and looking after her grandchildren with loving care. She will be fondly remembered for her sincere compassion, amazing and unique talent in textile arts, cooking and gardening. Her ability to design, embroider and crochet freehand was simply extraordinary. She also took great pride in her carefully manicured garden, sharing her fruits and vegetables with great generosity. Christmas Eve was always highly anticipated as it was hosted every year by Ida. She took great pride in creating a remarkable Italian home cooked fish dinner, prepared even in her 100th year. She was very tenacious and ambitious. Yet one could also feel Ida’s warmth through her kind smile and big hugs. Her calm and loving nature will be greatly missed.
Sincere gratitude to Dr. Phua’s LHSC team (Oncology, E.R., C.C.T.C.) for their outstanding care and support.
