Obituary of Janina Frydrych

Frydrych, Janina (nee Szelagowska)

1927 - 2021

Passed away peacefully on Monday November 8th, 2021 at the age of 94 at Extendicare, London.

Janina was born in Wloclawek, Poland on March 8th, 1927. After miraculously surviving WWII, she immigrated to Canada in 1948 through Halifax with not much more than the clothes on her back. She was transferred from Pickering barracks to work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Sarnia. She soon found a position as an automotive parts assembler at Prestolite where she continued for 26 years.

Janina was a member of Our Lady Queen of Peace church, the Polish Alliance, and a member of the Catholic Women’s League in Sarnia for many years. After relocating to London she attended Our Lady of Czestochowa church.

Janina was a wonderful seamstress and enjoyed travel, painting, knitting, crocheting, and gardening. Her true passion was to sing and go out dancing.

She loved her music. Her beautiful handwriting adorned the cards and notes she sent to her family for many years.

Beloved mother to sons Raymond (Lynn) and Daniel (Jill). Adoring grandmother to Kristy (Jake), Sam (Brittany), Carson, and Curtis. Great grandmother to Leah and Ava. Step-Sister to the late Bogdan and Stasiek Gawronski and survived by Wojtek Gawronski and Mirka Gawronska. Janina will be deeply missed by her extended family and friends both here and back home in Poland. She was a true survivor.

As per Mom’s wishes private family entombment in Holy Family Mausoleum, St. Peter’s Cemetery will take place on November 20th. Donations in Janina’s memory can be made to Extendicare London who graciously cared for mother until her passing. Flowers can be sent to Donohue Funeral Home.
