Additional Obit Info

WILEY, Edith (nee Olunek) Peacefully and with dignity, Amica, on August 8, 2017 Edith Wiley in her 89th year. Beloved wife of the late David Wiley (2002) for 49 years. Loving mother of Rebecca McIntosh (nee Wiley) and DJ Wiley (Diane Perry). Devoted Nanny to Kathryn, Nicholas, Amy and Peter McIntosh, Sarah Wiley and Catie Nanton. Predeceased by her parents Alec and Annie Olunek, sisters Sonia, Mary and Olga and brother John. Survived by sisters Tina Lowe and Helen Wolfenden, sister-in-law Joanne Wiley and brother-in-law Alan Hebden. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Often mistaken for a woman much younger than her years, Edith led an incredibly active life. From her early days as Middlesex County's youngest Justice of the Peace at age 23, a job which she held for 45 years, to her time with the May Court Club of London, serving the community as a Returning Officer in London South and fundraising for the United Way, Heart and Stroke and Canadian Cancer Society. Edith and David, built a home for their family in south London, where they remained for many decades. Edith was a fixture in the Wortley Village making several trips a week to the Quarter Master and local bakery and the Covent Garden Market, where she shopped daily. Edith continued to keep a voracious social life after retirement, often golfing several times a week, playing bridge with her friends, and travelling to Hilton Head with David. A sophisticated woman with a keen sense of style, Edith volunteered at the Art Galley of London assisting with art rentals. Edith's grandchildren and great grandchild were the light of her life, and she loved being a grandmother to them. An incredibly talented home cook, Edith loved to create wonderful meals for her family, and her recipes remain a staple in her family's kitchens. Her homemade chicken broth has provided countless meals for family and friends! It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye, but are finding peace knowing that Sapphire and the Fox are reunited again, listening to Lara's Theme - together again. A very special thank you to Dr. John Jordan, her physician for many years and all the amazing caregivers. As per Edith's wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service was held.
