Obituary of Yvonne Marie McIntyre

McIntyre, Yvonne Marie (d'Irumberry deSalaberry) – With grace and dignity, in death as in life, our beloved mother (Merm) and grandmother (Gamma) slipped away on July 7, 2017. Strong and independent to the end, Merm was born in Ottawa on October 1, 1930. She was fiercely proud of her "McIntyre girls" - Mary Jane (Eric), Louise (Rob) and Ann (Alan), and her honourary "girl", Carolyn. Gamma was a devoted and oh so well connected grandmother to the grandchildren who brought her such joy: Laura (Mehrdad), Ryan (Lindsay), Emma, Jamie (Kayla), Kale, Jenna, and Allison. She was delighted by the arrival of baby Aria nineteen months ago, as this formalized her status as a great Gamma. (Although to us she was always great!) Gamma will be remembered with great fondness by the many friends and family who knew her simply as Gamma (and particularly by little Emma, Nola, Eamon, Andrew and Alexandra). She will also be missed by her loyal furry companion, Sawyer. Yvonne was predeceased by her husbands, Joe (McIntyre) and Avery (Sainthill), and by her brother, Louis. She spoke regularly of, and with deep affection for, her brother, Mike (Margaret), and sisters in law Janine and Margaret. She will be deeply missed by many members of the extended McIntyre and deSalaberry families. Gamma was a strong role model who taught us the power of hard work, love and loyalty, and above all, humour. She taught us to never take ourselves so seriously as to not be able to laugh at ourselves. We would like to thank all of those who have helped ease Gamma's journey, particularly in the last two years, especially Dr. Hameed, Jennifer, Carol Anne, Sheila, Jan, Karlee, Courtney, Joey and Maura. In lieu of flowers, we would ask you to remember Gamma through a hug, chat or message to someone you care about; telling a humourous story; giving a smile; or maybe having a sip of Fireball! Memorial donations gratefully acknowledged to the summer day camp program at Holy Family Catholic Church, London, or St. Joseph's Hospice, London. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 777 Valetta Street, London, on Saturday, July 29, at 10am, with visitation one hour prior at the church. Private interment will take place in Ottawa at a later date. (John T. Donohue Funeral Home) I danced in the morning when the world was begun, And I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun. Dance then wherever you may be...
