Obituary of Robert Shawn Fitzmaurice

Robert Shawn "Gizmo" Fitzmaurice January 25, 1958 - Saturday, September 24, 2016 Gone too soon. Honouring his wishes, Robert Shawn Fitzmaurice died peacefully at home after his heroic battle with pancreatic cancer surrounded by his family and friends. Survived by his loving wife Lisa (nee Murray), daughters Kayla Emily and Stefanie Nova, his mother June, sister Sandra Carson (Brian), brother Stacey (Kelly), and grandchildren Thuya and Kye, mother-in-law Fran Murray, brother-in-law Mike (Annette), sister-in-law Janice (Tom) and his extended family. Predeceased by his first wife Barbara Ann and his father Wilfred James. Robert Shawn was known for his quick wit, intelligence and drive to help family, friends and co-workers. Through his business RTQ Inspections he developed strong ties with his associates and mentored many of his peers. Shawn was born and raised in London. He soon spent his summers in Port Stanley at his family cottage where his love for boats and unfinished projects flourished. Shawn was a treasured member at the Kanagio Yacht Club for 28 years (he will be missed). Due to his Type-A personality, the concept of vacations was lost on him. He enjoyed tinkering and could accomplish anything he set his mind to. Shawn is leaving behind a lot of stuff that his wife Lisa has no idea what to do with. We can picture him sitting on a cloud getting his toes rubbed looking down at us saying, "I'm smiling at you". Special thanks to Victoria Hospital & London Health Sciences, Elgin County's Community Palliative Team, the doctors, nurses, and everyone else that supported the family during this difficult of time. Friends of Robert Shawn will be received at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo St. at King St., London. On Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 29, 2016, at the Royal Canadian Legion - Branch 410, 310 George St., Port Stanley, on Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 4pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice.
