Obituary of Anna Hildegard Litchfield

Litchfield Hilda, Anna Hildegard Litchfield (nee Losch), 81, of London, Ontario, formerly of Montreal, Quebec, died peacefully at St. Joseph's Hospice on Saturday, April 30th , 2016. Born April 26th, 1935 in Montreal, Quebec, Hilda was predeceased by her parents, Peter & Anna Losch of London, Ontario; her brother, Robert Losch of Oakville, Ontario; and her late husband of 52 years, Earl Litchfield. Hilda is survived by her daughters Anne (Rick) Czapski of Calgary, AB; Sandra (Dave) Callaghan of Simcoe, ON; her son Gerald Litchfield of St. Marys, ON; grandchildren Matthew (Diana) Callaghan, James (Jeff) Callaghan, Anna Callaghan, Elizabeth (Shawn) Hiron, Christine (Graeme) Eliason; great granddaughter Grace Hiron, sister-in-law, Ruth Losch, and many nieces and nephews. Hilda attended secretarial college in Montreal and worked in a secretarial capacity until she and Earl began their family in St. Hubert, Quebec. Hilda was devoted to her family, and was a homemaker for many years. As her children grew older, she returned to work at the Bank of Montreal Head Office. In 1978, Hilda and Earl relocated their family to London, Ontario where she continued working for the Bank of Montreal in their London offices. She later moved to Price Waterhouse where she worked till her retirement. Hilda was diagnosed with breast cancer, soon after retiring. She underwent extensive treatment and was able to enjoy many activities in her retirement years. Both Earl and Hilda appreciated having the pool in the backyard and often had meals and family gatherings on their patio. They both enjoyed nature and bird watching. Hilda had a green thumb and her gardens were featured in a landscaping magazine. She also pursued a number of creative activities including crocheting, knitting, jewellery making, photography and painting. Visitation will be held at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, London, Ontario, on Monday, May 2, 2016 from 6-8 PM with prayers at 5:45 PM. Funeral Mass will be held at St. John the Divine Roman Catholic Church, 390 Baseline Road, West London, ON, on Tuesday, May 3rd at 12 noon. Reception will follow. Private interment with the family will be arranged. An online guestbook is available to express condolences as well as further information at www.donohuefuneralhome.ca. The family kindly asks that no perfumes or scents be worn due to family allergies, and thank you for your understanding. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the many friends who have supported Hilda, as well as caregivers who provided attentive and compassionate care during her later years, especially Dr. Nancy Moser GP, Dr. Diane Logan and the Oncology Team at London Health Sciences Centre. Also thanks to St. Elizabeth home care nurses, especially Megan, and the St. Joseph Hospice team: Dr. Monica Bishop, Myrna, and the volunteers, staff & nurses of the 3rd floor.
